Second Degree (Superficial) Burns

Know Your Surgery Treatment
Superficial second-degree burns extend beyond the epidermis, affecting the upper layers of the dermis—the sensitive connective tissue beneath the skin. These burns are characterized by blistering, swelling, redness, and significant pain due to the involvement of nerve endings. While healing can take time, with intensive wound care, infection prevention, and frequent aseptic dressings at the Burn Unit, most patients recover within three weeks, with some degree of scarring. Close monitoring is essential to prevent complications and promote optimal skin regeneration.
