Laryngectomy

Laryngectomy is a surgical procedure involving the partial or complete removal of the larynx (voice box). It is most performed for patients with advanced laryngeal cancer, severe airway trauma, or chronic voice box disorders. Following total laryngectomy, patients require alternative breathing and speech mechanisms, such as a tracheostomy or voice prosthesis.
