Colonoscopy
Know Your Surgery
Colonoscopy is a gold-standard procedure for evaluating the inner lining of the colon (large intestine) and rectum. It is performed using a colonoscope, a thin, flexible tube equipped with a camera, which transmits detailed images onto a monitor. This procedure is essential for the detection and prevention of colorectal cancer, as well as for diagnosing conditions such as inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), diverticulosis, and unexplained rectal bleeding. During the examination, polyps or abnormal growths can be removed for further analysis, making colonoscopy both a diagnostic and preventive tool.
